Danny Glover has revealed he has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, opening up publicly about his health for the first time.
The 79-year-old actor shared the news during an emotional appearance on Wednesday's The Today Show, saying he was diagnosed not long after receiving an honorary Oscar in 2022.

The Lethal Weapon and The Color Purple star admitted he is still coming to terms with the diagnosis but is determined to keep moving forward.
"I can live with it in a sense. I'm sure as it advances, different things will be different and changing," Glover said.

He also reflected on how the condition has affected him, adding: "I am still not accepting in my mind all parts of it."
"There are the moments that you keep remembering that validate the fact that you can remember stuff. And there are moments I'll never forget."

Glover's daughter, Mandisa, appeared alongside him in the pre-taped interview and explained why her father wanted to share the diagnosis publicly.
"And the time is now. What better time but now for him to speak for himself? It's important because people ask questions sometimes, and I don't want to be a dishonest person and say, 'Oh, yeah, everything is all right. It's all great,'" she said.
Mandisa also spoke about her father's condition in an interview with People, revealing that "he's aware sometimes and then sometimes not."
Alzheimer's disease is a progressive brain disorder that causes nerve cells to die, leading to memory loss, confusion, behavioral changes and a gradual decline in cognitive function.
Glover is widely recognized for starring in the Lethal Weapon franchise and The Color Purple, and received an honorary Academy Award in 2022 recognizing his decades-long career.
