She's the Princess of Wales, one of the most photographed women on the planet—but that didn't stop one cheeky senior from mistaking Kate Middleton for Prince William's assistant during a royal visit.
The now-viral mix-up happened during a visit to the Shire Hall Care Home in Cardiff a few years back. The royal couple were doing the rounds when they met resident Joan Drew-Smith, who didn't hesitate to point at Kate and ask William: "Is that your assistant?"

"I am your assistant"
Without missing a beat, Kate fired back with a laugh, telling William, "Well, I am your assistant." She added, "I have been for a long time!" The royals reportedly cracked up, clearly amused by the candid comment.
The resurfaced moment is getting fresh attention after Kate's surprise appearance at a Buckingham Palace garden party earlier this week—her first in two years and a major public return following her cancer diagnosis.
Wearing a pale blue dress and matching hat, the Princess joined Prince William as he hosted the traditional royal event on behalf of King Charles III.

William was dressed in full formal wear, complete with top hat and morning coat.
The outing marks a turning point for Kate, who missed the 2024 season of royal events while undergoing treatment. William previously described the year as "brutal" for their family, but royal watchers say this latest appearance signals she's easing back into her public role.
