King Charles has sent a private message to Joe Biden after the former U.S. president was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer, Buckingham Palace confirmed.
The letter from Charles comes as both men face personal battles with cancer. While the King's own cancer diagnosis remains under wraps in terms of specifics, he is still receiving treatment and has pulled back from public-facing duties.

The message to Biden follows years of cordial interactions between the two leaders. The pair last met in July 2023 for tea and a discussion at Windsor Castle. They also connected during the COP26 climate summit in Glasgow back in 2021.

Biden, 82, was recently diagnosed with aggressive prostate cancer, his team confirmed Sunday. A statement from his office said the cancer had already spread to his bones and carried a Gleason score of 9, the highest level on the scale, indicating a severe case.
"Last week, President Joe Biden was seen for a new finding of a prostate nodule after experiencing increasing urinary symptoms," his medical team said. "On Friday, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, characterized by a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) with metastasis to the bone."
Biden acknowledged the diagnosis on Instagram with a photo of himself, First Lady Jill Biden, and their cat, Willow. "Cancer touches us all," he wrote. "Like so many of you, Jill and I have learned that we are strongest in the broken places. Thank you for lifting us up with love and support."

While Biden attended Queen Elizabeth II's funeral in September 2022, he did not attend Charles's coronation in May 2023—his wife Jill Biden represented the U.S. in his place.
No details from Charles's letter have been made public, but palace insiders say it was "deeply personal." The 75-year-old monarch's illness was disclosed earlier this year, though palace officials have remained tight-lipped about the exact type of cancer.
