A court order filed on September 20, 2023, and reported by TMZ, has mandated that Petty undergo 120 days of home monitoring. This decision comes after Petty was seen in video clips posted on social media on September 16, in which he appeared to be targeting Offset, who is married to Cardi B.

In one viral video clip, Petty and his entourage were outside a New York hotel, where Offset was supposedly staying. Among various menacing comments, Petty was heard saying, "Plan that vacation, you gonna be planning your funeral p****!"

Offset, however, downplayed the threats in a video shared on his own social media account, saying, "I'm getting off a jet, he's funny."

Petty's legal troubles date back to his 1995 conviction in New York for the attempted rape of a 16-year-old girl, which required him to register as a sex offender in the state. After marrying Nicki, he moved to California in October 2019 but failed to register in his new state of residence. This oversight resulted in a one-year home detention order and three years of probation.

Nicki Minaj, also known as "The Starships" rapper, has previously defended her husband and criticized the public scrutiny surrounding his original conviction. She shared her thoughts on Instagram in December 2018, stating, "He was 15, she was 16… in a relationship. But go awf, internet, y'all can't run my life. Y'all can't even run y'all own life."
