Kanye West has recently asserted that he is autistic, contradicting his prior diagnosis of bipolar disorder, in a series of text messages exchanged with Elon Musk. The 46-year-old rapper, who had previously disclosed his bipolar diagnosis in 2018, voiced his concerns on Twitter, suggesting he had been "mentally misdiagnosed."
West called upon his friend Ian Connor to share screenshots of his text messages to Tesla co-founder Elon Musk, 52, where he also alleged that his former spouse, Kim Kardashian, was obstructing his access to their children. The texts were made public on Wednesday, October 18, 2023.

The messages stated, "When are we going to speak? You owe me nothing. You never have to speak to me again. But if we do speak, the nature of the relationship has to change. I'm not bipolar; I have signs of autism from my (2002) car accident." Here, West was referencing the car crash that famously led to his hit song, 'Through the Wire,' where he rapped with his jaw wired shut following major surgery.
In 2022, West tweeted, "So I will say this again: I was mentally misdiagnosed and nearly drugged out of my mind to make me a manageable, well-behaved celebrity."
Within the recent set of texts, West expressed his frustration with Kim Kardashian, 42, telling Elon that he "can't watch Kim keep my kids from me."
Towards the end of the messages, the rapper-turned-fashion designer criticized the billionaire for describing him as a "friend" to gain access to his audience, alluding to Musk's struggling X platform.

West's stylist friend, Ian, also posted a text from the rapper instructing him to make the screenshots public. West had to resort to enlisting Ian's help after being banned from the X platform due to a series of antisemitic rants.
The motive behind West's decision to share these messages remains unclear, especially as he was on vacation in Europe with his 28-year-old wife, Bianca Censori. Despite West's claims that Kim was preventing him from seeing their four children, photographs of the rapper with his seven-year-old son, Saint, at a soccer game in Italy emerged just a couple of weeks ago.
West and Kim's divorce was finalized in 2022 after their marriage in 2014, and the rapper secretly married model Bianca last December.
