Jimmy Kimmel had a very good reason to cancel Jimmy Kimmel Live! this week — he just became a grandfather.
The 57-year-old talk show host was off the air Monday night, but returned Tuesday and explained the last-minute schedule change in his opening monologue.

"We are back to work after an extra day off," Kimmel said. "You know, we were supposed to have a show last night, but we didn't because my daughter had a baby last night."
Kimmel's 33-year-old daughter, Katie, welcomed her first child — a baby girl — with husband Will Logsdon on Monday. The proud new grandpa chose to skip his own show to be there for the birth.
"My oldest daughter – you know, people don't realize, people that know I have two little kids, they don't know I have two older kids. My oldest daughter, she's 83-years-old," Kimmel joked, before adding, "Her name is Katie."
"Katie and her husband Will had a baby girl right at the time we shoot our show last night. So I decided to be there instead of here."
Kimmel also shared the baby's name with viewers, but not without slipping in a few jokes first.
"The baby's very healthy. Her name, they gave her a very cute name. Her name is Melania," he joked. "It's Melanie Thee Stallion… her name is Patti. Like the melt, but with an 'I' not a 'Y.'"
He added that Patti's middle name is Joan — a tribute to his mother.

Katie is Kimmel's daughter from his first marriage to Gina Maddy, along with their son Kevin, 31. The couple divorced in 2003. Kimmel later married Molly McNearney in 2013. They have two children: Jane, 10, and Billy, 8. Katie and Will tied the knot in September 2020.
Kimmel didn't share photos of the newborn, but fans can expect grandpa updates — and probably more jokes — on future episodes.
