The show, which is filming in Vancouver under the pseudonym Calm Current, began production in March and is currently scheduled to continue through November 27.
One reported reason for the temporary filming break is the upcoming World Cup matches.
Season three is set to shift its focus toward Abby, played by Kaitlyn Dever, as the story explores her perspective and her three-day journey through Seattle.
The upcoming season is also expected to dive deeper into Abby's backstory, including the aftermath of her father's death and the events leading up to her encounters with Ellie, played by Bella Ramsey, and Joel, played by Pedro Pascal.

If the adaptation follows the source material closely, viewers can also expect expanded details surrounding the conflict between the Washington Liberation Front and the Seraphites.
Recent set photos have shown Abby alongside Lev, played by Kyriana Kratter, as the pair travel through Seattle carrying weapons.
Lev is a transgender teenage member of the Seraphites, a faction known within the franchise for its ongoing battle against the WLF.
Originally released in 2013, The Last of Us has grown from a video game series into a major franchise that includes comics, remakes and HBO's acclaimed television adaptation.
