A TESCO shopper claims she bumped into footy star David Beckham – sporting a “full shopping trolley” – in the supermarket car park.
Abbi Head, a PR and marketing expert, ran into Becks in the late 90s at the Prestwich superstore in Manchester when shopping with a friend.
The unexpected encounter happened in the car park when Abbi’s friend spotted the Manchester United star putting his shopping into his car.
Speaking exclusively to The National Mail, Abbi said: “If it had not been for needing yellow bean sauce we would never have met.
“I met David Beckham in Manchester Tesco car park, it was around the time he kicked the ball into the net from the halfway line, so not too famous… yet!
“My friend recognised him and introduced me.
“I don't follow football so just shook his hand, shrugged and watched the cars going by as they chatted about why they were there. Both 'shopping’ apparently.
“Who would have guessed with them both in the Tesco car park?
“Now, look at where he is at, funny world.”
Abbi says the impromptu meet-up was around 1996 and that before meeting Beckham, she didn’t really know who she was talking to.
She added: “I still like yellow bean sauce. Food brings us all together in so many ways.
“I think it was 1996. He had a full shopping trolley as I recall.
“I'm don't watch football so visiting my friend in Manchester was an eye opener.”
