A WILDLIFE park giraffe has died after it “sustained an injury” in a freak accident at Wingham Wildlife Park in Canterbury.
Zoo owners made the devastating announcement on social media this morning (April 6) following the death of their beloved animal Ron.
A spokesperson said: “It is with a very heavy heart that we have to tell you that Ron, one of our giraffes has sadly passed away.
“It appears that he sustained an injury during an accident he had in the indoor housing during the night, however, we are also still awaiting the results from the post mortem.”
Shocked residents have taken to social media following the freak death, some labelling the incident “preventable” and “unnecessary”.
One said: “How did this happen? Are the animals not monitored over night?

“So sad also for all at Wingham Wildlife Park, you must be absolutely devastated.”
One former colleague added: “Rest in peace Ron, I loved working with him he was a character and will be sadly missed.
“Sending big love to all the mammal keepers you were all amazing at looking after all animals. Sad to see him go so soon.”
