Two young children aged 3 and 5 killed in horror house fire in Preston

TWO young children, aged three and five, have died following a horror house blaze which left their mother with serious injuries in Preston.

The family were trapped inside their home on Coronation Crescent during the fire which broke out just before 8pm on Friday (April 8).

Lancashire Police say the mother and her and two children were brought out of the address and rushed to hospital immediately.  

The mother, aged in her 20s, suffered injuries which were not life-threatening. 

Her two children – a girl aged three and a boy aged five – were also taken to hospital.

Medical intervention was withdrawn yesterday (April 12) and both children have now died. 

Police say a file will be passed onto HM Coroner in due course. 

A 24-year-old man arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life was initially released under investigation pending further enquiries.

He has now been released no further action. 

A police spokesperson said: “Our thoughts are with their loved ones at this incredibly difficult time. 

“The children’s family continued to be supported by specially-trained officers.

“A joint investigation between police and the fire service to determine the cause of the fire is continuing.” 

Det Ch Insp Rach Higson, of the Force Major Investigation Team, said: “This tragic incident has resulted in two children sadly losing their lives and my thoughts, first and foremost, are with their loved ones at this time. 

“Our enquiries into the cause of the fire are continuing.”
