Emily Ratajkowski reflects on the unsettling experience of being inundated with work offers when she was unhealthily skinny, as she once shared, "I got so thin after Sly and the darkest point of my marriage." The 32-year-old model, who parted ways with Sebastian Bear-McClard in July 2022 after three years of marriage, vividly remembers her postpartum struggles following the birth of their son Sylvester in March 2021.
During this challenging period, she was grappling with deep unhappiness and found herself losing an alarming amount of weight. Paradoxically, despite her declining health, she found herself constantly booked for modeling assignments. In her candid revelations on her 'High Low With EmRata' podcast, Emily recalculated her BMI during that difficult phase and realized just how unhealthy she had become
With her BMI plunging to a level that could have categorized her as anorexic, she reflected on the alarming nature of her busy work schedule. In her own words, "Let me tell you, by the way, I was working a lot, which is scary … Make your judgments about the industry based on that."
However, Emily's perspective on her body and career took a positive turn as she gained weight and, more importantly, regained her health. She explained, "I felt like I was just this inconsequential person. I felt like I didn't take up space, and it made me appreciate the fullness of my body when I'm healthy."
During her podcast discussion, Emily also recounted a challenging moment from her early modeling career when she was "dropped" by a client for gaining "a little bit of weight." She recalled, "I remember once I gained a little bit of weight and a client dropped me. It was a very intense job." Despite these hurdles, Emily expressed gratitude for her modeling career, describing herself as the "luckiest person in the world" to have the opportunity to pursue it.
Reflecting on her troubled marriage, Emily shared insights into her emotional state at the time, saying, "I was really, really unhappy." She confessed that she had hesitated for a long time before finding the courage to leave. During this period, she had experienced significant weight loss and personal turmoil. Emily revealed, "I was, like, 100 pounds and I had just had a baby. I got really skinny 'cause I was not OK." Ultimately, she learned the importance of trusting her instincts and moving forward with her life.
